Mike, W6YQ, licensed 1953, first as W5ZVU until the 1970s, and then as W6YQ*.

Station: at 4,000 feet/1219 meters in the Black Hills of South Dakota; main antenna, a 287-foot/88m horizontal loop extending over a large canyon. Primary transceiver TS-590; secondary transceiver TS-2000, with HL-450B amp and MFJ-993B transmatch. A 360-foot/110m Beverage switches between the transceivers, and the main VHF/UHF antenna is a J-pole.

W6YQ prefers LotW. ARRL DXCC: 346 mixed, 318 CW; CQDX: 320 CW.

Feb 23, 2012 was my first ever HF contact, and I was able to converse with 2 amateurs from W land. Using 100W, and a multi-band dipole, signal was 3/4, but I was very pleased with it as a first contact. Of course, now I need a more powerful rig and possibly a beam antenna :-)

I am back in the hospital with a broken hip. I had surgery las week to put a plate in my leg. I have had started rehab to learn to hop around with a walker to get ready to go home.
